Little France sexual assaults: man charged

Police are appealing for the public’s help as part of an investigation into the sexual assault of two women, which took place in the Little France area.

The first victim, aged in her thirties, was assaulted around 2.30pm on Thursday (21st February). The second incident took place the following day, shortly before 2pm on Friday (22 February), when a woman in her fifties was attacked.

Detective Inspector Graham Grant of Edinburgh’s Public Protection Unit: “These incidents are being treated as linked and a thorough investigation is underway, which includes an increase in high visibility patrols to the area.

“The suspect is described as a white man, in his twenties, around 5ft 4ins tall, of stocky build with long brown hair, and was carrying a pink rucksack.

“Anyone with information about these incidents, or who may recognise the description of the suspect, is urged to come forward immediately.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2179 of 22nd February, or report this anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Police in Edinburgh have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the sexual assault of two women in the Little France area.

The incidents took place on Thursday 21 February and Friday 22 February and inquiries remain ongoing.

Police in Edinburgh have charged a 21-year-old man in connection with the sexual assault of two women in the Little France area.

The first incident happened in an area on Little France Crescent at around 2.45pm on Thursday 21 February.

The second incident happened on Little France Park at around 1.20pm on Friday 22 February.

In both incidents the victims, a 35-year-old woman and 53-year-old woman were left shaken but not seriously injured.

The man has also been charged in connection with an incident on Thursday 21 February whereby a 38-year-old woman was followed by a man in the Little France Park area.

The man is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today (Tuesday 26 February).

Detective Inspector Jonny Wright from the Public Protection Unit said: “These incidents were distressing for all three women involved and I’d like to thank them for their support during our inquiries.

“I’d also like to thank the public and our partners in the local area for their assistance as we conducted a thorough investigation, which has resulted in a man appearing in court today.”
