It’s been a busy old year for your North Edinburgh News blog. National (Brexit) and international (Donald Trump) stories may have been making the headlines around the globe, but here in North Edinburgh it was a story about yet another closed local pub that was the most-read post of the year! The news comes as The Telford Arms has announced that it’s to close at the end of this month for a major refurbishment – and will re-open in March as The Scottish Engineer.
1669 people read ‘Another one bites the dust’, the story of the Doo’Cot closure on 12 March. The pub has since re-opened, of course. Next most popular story was The Cost of Brexit (1117) in October while the poignant World War One story There But Not There attracted 1051 readers on 28 February.
These were followed by Another Major Development Planned for Barnton Maybury (881) and No More B & Bs for homeless families, says council task force (853).
None of 2018’s top stories come close to the most popular NEN stories of all time, however. These remain: Teenagers Face Court Following Leith Death (6490), Brave Brandon Loses Fight for Life (5987)and Muirhouse Shopping Centre To Be Demolished (5957).
Busiest month in 2018 was March with 15768 visits, closely followed by December with 15474 and October with 14601 – the busiest three months since the NEN blog was established!
Thanks for following NEN, your community news site. Here’s to a busy 2019!
