Walled Garden: helping hands would be handy on Open Days

Dear Friends Group Members and Supporters,

A quick callout for help at the garden with preparations for our next open door Saturdays in September and harvests to come!

1st September from 12-2pm – Open Saturday, bring a picnic, pick your own brambles, pop-up cafe and plant stall.

29th September from 12-4pm – Our second Cockburn Association Door’s Open Day and it would be great if as many volunteers as possible could help on the day as ‘sentries’ around the historic castle garden, costumes & fancy dress optional.

Last year we ran guided tours but this year we hope to let people wander and explore safely, chat to volunteers about the achievements of the last year and enjoy the atmosphere of the garden.

Please get in touch with Gillean if you would like to help in any way at the open days:  gilleanpaterson@hotmail.com

It has been great this last month to share our first harvests in local community cafe & garden venues around Granton, Pilton and Muirhouse; encouraging people to grow their own and raising awareness of the amazing green resource being restored by community members on the shore for all to enjoy.

Huge thanks to Sheila Wong (pictured) for the saved courgette seeds, a bumper crop of all shapes, colours and sizes!

We are at the walled garden on a Wednesday and Sunday from 11-1pm if you would like to help get the garden tidied up a bit for the end of August, pick fruit, sow seeds and more.

Best,

Kirsty Sutherland
