Fiona Aitken, Adoption UK’s Director – Scotland, said: “I’d like to congratulate all adopted children in Scotland who are receiving their National 5 and Higher results today.
“Many adopted children struggle at school and require more support in the classroom because the vast majority of them experienced abuse, neglect and/or trauma with their birth parents. This is why managing to sit these exams is a triumph in itself, regardless of result.
“I’d also like to congratulate all of the adoptive parents who have supported their children through what can often be a very challenging time.”
Adoption UK recently launched its Equal Chance Campaign, in which the charity is calling on UK governments to re-think the way we are educating our most vulnerable children and to address the shortfall in vital support needed in schools.
