The Scottish SPCA celebraed Volunteer Week by giving thanks to volunteers across Scotland. Scotland’s animal welfare charity has highlighted the incredible work of one volunteer in particular, Edinburgh local Muriel Haig.
Chief Executive Kirsteen Campbell said, “Volunteers’ Week gives us all the opportunity to pause and reflect on the huge contribution made by our volunteers across the length and breadth of the country.
“Muriel’s contribution has been invaluable! It’s quite simply overwhelming that she’s now been volunteering at the Society for over 30 year and is a true testament to her passion for helping animals.
“Volunteers like Muriel really do help save lives – our entire team, including all our furry, feathered and scaled friends, are so grateful for their support.”
Muriel said: “When I was a child I did fundraisers at school for the Society because I’ve always liked animals. In 1991 I officially joined the Edinburgh Supporter Group but I’d been raising funds for years before that.
“I’ve had great fun over the years attending events, even when our gazebo blew over at Ingliston and we all got rained on!
“I rehomed a cat, Mickie, from the Scottish SPCA when he was a kitten. He helps (and gets in the way!) when we’re counting the money we fundraise.”
