Meerkats demolish Royal Wedding cake!

Animals at Drayton Manor Zoo have been taking part in their very own Royal Wedding celebrations this week, ahead of the upcoming marriage of Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle this Saturday.

The Slender-Tailed Meerkat mob, that call Drayton Manor Park’s 15-acre Zoo home, has been given a three-tiered wedding cake fit for a prince as part of the zoo’s animal enrichment programme. Made from string and card, the ‘cake’ has been designed to give the animals extra opportunities for exercise and mental stimulation and the mischievous Meerkats immediately set to work getting stuck into their treat.

Chris Mitchell, Head of Zoo Operations, said: “Animal enrichment is really important for our animals at Drayton Manor Zoo and we are always looking for alternative ideas to intrigue and excite our Zoo residents. We loved watching the Meerkats engage with their Royal Wedding cake themed activity and as you can see for yourselves, they thoroughly enjoyed this extra treat.”

Based in Staffordshire, Drayton Manor Park will also have some fantastic additional offers available in celebration of the Royal Wedding.

The wedding will be played in the Garden Room in the onsite four-star hotel too where guests can enjoy a celebratory afternoon tea with a 20% discount, meaning the cost of the tea is just £12 per person. Featuring decadent sandwiches, a delightful selection of cakes and sumptuous freshly baked scones served with jam and cream, the afternoon tea offer will be available between Wednesday 16th May and Friday 25th May and only when booked in advance.

To continue the Royal Wedding celebrations, Drayton Manor Hotel has an exciting wedding offer for couples who are looking to follow in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s footsteps. For those who book the Fairy Tale Package – All Wrapped Up and secure their wedding before Thursday 31st May, they will also receive a free sweet cart to enjoy during their big day.
