Action! Septemberfest all set for free big screen event

This year Septemberfest is doing an outdoor community cinema at Broughton High School. We are showing the hugely successful film Dunkirk (12A) on a huge outdoor air screen. It is on Saturday 30th September and it is FREE.

Food and entertainment starts at 5.30pm with Pizza, BBQ, Paella, popcorn and ice cream for sale. The film starts at 7.30pm. Bring bring a picnic rug to sit on. (Sorry no alcohol allowed and kids under 12 need to be accompanied by an adult)

Animal charities call for tougher jail sentences

The Scottish SPCA supports the maximum jail sentence for those convicted of cruelty and welfare offences under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 to be increased, from 12 months, to five years. Scotland’s animal welfare charity will be joining Battersea and Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home at the Scottish Parliament today as the charities are joined by MSPs to call for tougher sentences for animal cruelty offences. Ryanair: “We messed up”

40,000 passengers affected by flight cancellations

Ryanair has published the full list of flight cancellations between Thursday 21st September and Tuesday 31st October. These cancellations have been allocated where possible to Ryanair’s bigger base airports, and routes with multiple daily frequencies, so that Ryanair can offer these disrupted customers the maximum number of alternate flights and routes in order to minimise inconvenience to them. Green light for Edinburgh active travel projects

Two innovative City of Edinburgh Council active travel projects have been awarded millions of pounds in funding, it was announced yesterday. The West Edinburgh Active Travel Network and Meadows to George Street proposals were among five Scottish schemes named as winners of the Sustrans Scotland Community Links PLUS funding by Transport Minister Humza Yousaf at a ceremony in Glasgow.  Continue reading Green light for Edinburgh active travel projects

Green report shows taxing derelict land could help tackle housing crisis

A new report by Andy Wightman MSP, Housing and Land Reform spokesperson for the Scottish Greens, shows that giving local councils the power to tax the 20,000 football pitches’ worth of vacant and derelict land in Scotland could generate £200 million a year to build affordable homes and tackle the housing crisis.
