… but you don’t have to take them all!
The Scottish SPCA is appealing for help rehoming 16 beautiful bunnies who have made a fantastic recovery from a case of snuffles. The rabbits are currently housed at Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre as they look to start a new life with a loving family.Snuffles, which is also called Pasteurella, is one of the most common infections that can strike domestic rabbits and is a form of respiratory disease.
The rabbits in our care have been treated and are now fully recovered. However, because of the nature of the infection these animals should not be taken in by a member of the public who already has bunnies as the disease can be passed on to other rabbits.
Diane Aitchison, manager of the centre in Balerno, said, “These rabbits have been treated by a vet and are ready for rehoming.
“They are fit, healthy and lively little animals who would make ideal pets.
“However, they have to go to a single rabbit household or someone who was willing to take more than one of our current batch home with them.
“The characteristics of the virus mean that the rabbits who have had Pasteurella will always shed the disease and could infect other bunnies that they come into contact with.
“These rabbits would make fantastic pets and we would love it if they could find their forever homes.”
