To mark 2016’s National Gardening Week, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) is hosting a Spring Festival as People’s Postcode Lottery’s national Charity of the Week. Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have awarded an amazing £450,000 to RBGE for 2016, supporting projects at home and abroad.

Gardening is one of Britain’s favourite hobbies, thanks to its combination of exercise, healthy eating, lower stress levels and the creation of something beautiful. With the help of players of People’s Postcode Lottery, the Edible Gardening Project is one of the many ways RBGE is helping people take first steps into a lifelong passion.

The Edible Gardening Project is celebrating players’ support and National Gardening Week 2016 with a Spring Festival at the Botanics on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 April. From 1pm to 4pm each day there will be fun activities for children, gardening information for adults and a chance to explore the productive area of the Garden with the Edible Gardening Team.

As People’s Postcode Lottery’s Charity of the Week, players’ support for RBGE is helping to encourage more people to get involved with gardening. Jenny Foulkes, the Edible Gardening Project Manager, explains: Growing your own food is hugely satisfying; it’s great for physical and mental health, good for your diet and can be very sociable.

“Whether connecting with the Edible Gardening Project in the Botanics or online, thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery’s support there’s space for everyone to learn how to grow something to eat from scratch.”
