Police seek man following Murrayburn Place assault

Police Scotland has released an image of a man they believe may hold information which might assist in relation to an assault in Edinburgh.

The incident happened at around 11.30pm on Tuesday, 18 October, 2022, at Murrayburn Place.

The man (pictured below) is described as 16 to 18-years-old, around 6ft, and was wearing a grey-coloured top, jogging bottoms, sunglasses and black gloves.

One man aged 22 has been charged in connection with the incident.

Detective Sergeant Todd Rutherford said: “I would urge the man or anyone who knows who he is to get in touch with us.

“Anyone with any information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3811 of Tuesday, 18 October, 2022, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

UPDATE

A 17-year-old male youth has been arrested and charged in connection with an assault in Edinburgh on Tuesday, 18 October, 2022.

The incident happened on Murrayburn Place around 11.30pm.

He appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday, 3 November, 2022.

A 22-year-old man was also charged in connection with the incident. He appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, 24 October, 2022.

Police appeal following robbery on Burdiehouse Road

POLICE are appealing for information after a 16-year-old male youth was robbed on Burdiehouse Road last Saturday (22 October, 2022).

Around 12.10am, the victim was approached by three males who assaulted him and stole his jacket. The males left the scene in the direction of Frogston Road.

The three suspects are described as black males, aged 18-20 and were wearing black tracksuits.

Detective Sergeant Keith Taylor, of Gayfied CID, said: “This was a particularly distressing incident for the victim, who sustained a minor injury.

“If you were in the area around the time of the robbery, either before or after, and witnessed anything suspicious or recognise the description of the men, please get in touch.

“Similarly, if you have dash-cam footage that may help with our investigation then please contact us.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 0149 of 22 October, 2022, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Please be aware that it is illegal for the general public to set fireworks off before 6pm and after 11pm in the evening. This extends to midnight on 5 November and 1am on New Year’s Eve, Chinese New Year and Diwali.

The Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Articles (Scotland) Act 2022 includes the prohibition of supplying fireworks or pyrotechnic articles, such as flares, to anyone under the age of 18 and will take effect from this year.

Police: Black and Minority community online recruitment event

Princes Street assault: CCTV released

Police have released images of two males they believe may hold information that will assist their ongoing enquiries into an assault that occurred on Princes Street at around midnight on Wednesday 22nd December 2021.

The first male is described as mixed race, early 20s, around 5’11” in height and of slim build with a dark moustache and goatee. He was wearing a dark woollen hat, a black puffer jacket and dark trousers.

The second male is described as white, early 20s, about 5’9” in height and of slim build with short light brown hair. He was wearing a navy jumper and grey trousers.

The males or anyone who recognises them or who has any information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident 1904 of 22nd December 2021, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Teenagers attacked in unprovoked assault in Leith

POLICE are appealing for information after an unprovoked assault on two teenagers in Leith.

The incident happened in the Albert Place and Leith Walk area shortly after 1am yesterday (Wednesday, 19 October).

A group of males on electric motorbikes approached the two male teenagers, aged 19 and 18.

The 19-year-old suffered a stab wound to his leg during the incident and was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

The 18-year-old was treated at the scene for an injury to his leg sustained while attempting to get away from the group.

The group of males, all described as white, wearing balaclavas, gloves, rucksacks and dark clothing, then left the scene on their motorbikes in the direction of Albert Street.

Detective Sergeant Steven Dick said: “This was a completely unprovoked incident and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify the group of three males on motorbikes involved.

“Our enquiries so far suggest they have been riding their motorbikes a short time earlier in the city centre so I would urge anyone who believes they may have seen them to get in touch.

More than 130 motorcycles recovered in Edinburgh under Operation Soteria

Edinburgh Division ‘remains committed to tackling the theft and reckless use of motorcycles’

Operation Soteria, the capital’s well-established city wide initiative, resulted in 36 arrests, 185 charges for a variety of offences, and the recovery of 131 motorcycles, with a total value of more than £600,000.

Whilst this intensification period has recently concluded, locally based initiative teams, response, community and CID officers continue their efforts to identify offenders, prevent and deter further incidents, and provide community reassurance.

Superintendent Sam Ainslie said: “We are aware of the negative impact and understandable community concerns resulting from the anti-social and reckless use of off-road motorcycles across the city.

“This behaviour will not be tolerated, and we have and will continue to work with colleagues, including Road Policing, to proactively prevent and address these concerns.

“Road safety remains a priority for Edinburgh Division, and notwithstanding the risk these reckless individuals pose to their own safety, their behaviours also cause significant risk to pedestrians and other road users.

“While Operation Soteria has now concluded for this year, officers across Edinburgh remain committed to tackling and reducing motorcycle related crime and will continue to work to ensure offenders are dealt with robustly.

“To allow us to target our activities, I would encourage communities to report incidents via 101, and should anyone have information as to the identity of those placing communities at risk, this can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Superintendent Ainslie added: “In addition to enforcement, a key element of our work involves crime prevention, education and community engagement and reassurance.

“We understand the impact on the both the biker and wider community, and we have and will continue to work with them.

“As an example, we have been working with a range of partners across our established networks, including the tourism sector, both locally and across Europe, raising awareness and discussing security and prevention opportunities”
