TODAY (Thursday 17th March) and tomorrow, Friday 18th March, there will be a pop up vaccination clinic from 9am – 2.30pm at the North Edinburgh Community Resource Centre on Pennywell Road.
All vaccines including boosters can be administered.
A 17-year-old man has been charged with the theft of a delivery van on Pennywell Road yesterday (Thursday 11 February).
He was arrested after a pursuit and was also charged with driving offences and possession of weapons.
Enquiries are ongoing in relation to similar thefts in the city recently.
First Port is a Scotland wide organisation which supports social enterprises throughout Scotland, from start up to further on in their development. What If…North Edinburgh? is a programme specifically for this area to support the development of social enterprises from idea to action.
I’m Julie Smith, the programme manager and I’m based in the area in North Edinburgh Arts. I want to work with local people who have ideas about helping themselves and their community through developing businesses which do both!
It could be an idea about anything: a gardening service for older people; teaching people a skill; supporting people to get physically active. Whatever it is I want to hear it. Even if it isn’t a business idea, it might be a good project.
One of the issues we have in the area is a lack of space for people to work in. There has been a growth in co-working spaces in the city, but there’s not a lot between South Queensferry and Leith. A co –working space means someone who just needs a desk and broadband connection can share space with others in a similar situation. Some of the spaces can be quite expensive.
The new North Edinburgh Community Resource Centre, housing Community Renewal and Citizen’s Advice on Pennywell Road has some suitable space available to rent.
There’s room for co-working space, a small training/meeting room and access to a kitchen. It would be a great space for people to work in, meet others and for training and workshops to be delivered in.
I would like to find out if there are people throughout North West Edinburgh who would be interested in such a space and developing a vision for it. The local area has never had a business hub where people can get support, can develop ideas and share with others. I think this is a great opportunity.

Police in Edinburgh have arrested a 62 year old man following the death of 61 year old Marie Walker at an address on Pennywell Road at around 9.30am on Tuesday morning. Continue reading Man arrested following Pennywell murder
Police are treating the death of a woman whose body was found at a flat in North Edinburgh as unexplained. The discovery was made at around 10am at a flat on Pennywell Road yesterday.
A man who was found injured in the flat is being treated in hospital. Neither person has yet been named.
A post-mortem will take place and a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
No further information is available at this time.
The doors are being taken off Muirhouse Shopping Centre today, 21st Century Homes – the team behind the area’s regeneration – has announced. Robert Pearson reports …
Residents are delighted to learn today that the doors of Pennywell Shopping Centre being taken down, It was confirmed on Friday afternoon in an email from newly appointed senior project manager John McDonald of the city’s 21st century
regeneration project.
An email sent to local groups advised that work will start today (Monday 22 October) to remove the doors and glass fronts on the shopping centre, with local shops and residents advised on Saturday about the intended work.
Since the shopping centre was roofed and these doors were put in place many
local residents and shop keepers have highlighted concerns with anti-social
behaviour over recent months many people have taken shelter within the
area and continued to consume alcohol, throwing rubbish, and generally causing
a nuisance. Many find this behaviour intimidating and Lothian & Borders
police are often seen within the shopping centre tackling the issues.
I spoke to a shopper this morning and asked their opinion in the doors coming
off, she told me that is brilliant and might stop the drunks gathering within
the centre. She also added that they should have never have been put up in the
first place.
Just now walking through the enclosed centre can be very intimidating, but with
the doors removed it will hopefully feel a lot more open and more welcoming.
There have also been talks of the roof being removed; this has been delayed due
to structural.
