Musselburgh Racecourse rolls out royal connections for Platinum Jubilee Weekend

PORT SETON’S PADDY FLIES THE ROYAL STANDARD IN CORGI DERBY!

Musselburgh Racecourse is preparing for its Platinum Jubilee Weekend on 4th and 5th of June with the announcement of two special guests who have interesting royal connections. 

The East Lothian track is hosting a prestigious weekend of Scottish summer racing that includes a jam-packed schedule of racing across both days and family fun and a street party extravaganza on the Sunday. 

A distant relative of one of Her Majesty The Queen’s own corgis named Paddy from Port Seaton (below), will take part in a special corgi race ‘The Corgi Derby’ on the Sunday and there will also be an exclusive performance by Louise Marshall, Scotland’s national piper who was the lone piper to Her Majesty The Queen at the naming ceremony of the Queen Elizabeth Ocean Liner in 2010. 

Musselburgh Racecourse already has a proud Royal heritage. The Queen’s Stand was opened by Princess Anne and visited by Her Majesty The Queen in 2016, and general manager Bill Farnsworth is delighted to be able to honour the Monarch’s 70-year reign across this special weekend.

The £50,000 Inch’s Cider Scottish Sprint Cup takes place on Saturday 4th June. Inch’s Cider is a new product within the Musselburgh Racecourse portfolio and will be available to buy across the weekend as well as a selection of other local beers and ciders. Spectators will also be able to indulge in delicious street food and enjoy live music from The Funkwagen DJ. 

The Skybet Sunday Series Raceday, featuring the Queen of Scots Fillies Stakes and the Jubilee Family Fair, follows on 5th June

As well as the Corgi Derby and performance from piper Louise Marshall, there will be a real family feel and party atmosphere on the day, with the event suited to all ages and visitors encouraged to bring along a picnic and join in the street-party extravaganza for a day packed full of family activities.

There will be Anna and Elsa from Disney’s Frozen, a best dressed prince and princess competition with some prizes up for grabs, as well as vintage fairground rides and face painting.

Musselburgh Racecourse hat-trick of race meetings to celebrate summer

The Musselburgh race card is packed with possibilities for spectators as the track prepares to host a top-class trio of summer races this year.

Join in the excitement with Edinburgh Gin Raceday (21 May), celebrate The Queen’s magnificent Platinum Jubilee weekend (4-5 June) or get glammed up to the nines for Scotland’s most prestigious five-star Ladies Day (5 August).

The exhilarating Sensational 7, Summer programme begins with the return of The Edinburgh Gin Raceday featuring The Edinburgh Cup.

In addition to high-quality racing, there will be plenty of opportunities to party and enjoy some great food and drink: catch live music from local bands on the courtyard stage; sip botanical-inspired cocktails from the Edinburgh Gin Tipple Trailer and savour dishes from some of Scotland’s finest street food vendors.

As well as racing, spectators will be able to enjoy live music, indulge in delicious fresh street food and enjoy a range of local beers and ciders. The Funkwagen DJ will also be there to get the party started.

With a real family feel and party atmosphere, the event is suited to all ages and visitors are encouraged to bring along a picnic and join in the street-party extravaganza.  The day is also packed with family activities including a free funfair and face-painting, plus prizes for the best dressed Prince and Princess.

The course’s Queen Stand is also hosting the Big Jubilee Lunch, catered for by Royal Warrant holders Heritage Portfolio, followed by Afternoon Tea inspired by items served at The Queen’s Garden Parties.

Glad rags will be the order of the day later in the summer when the course welcomes the glamour of Stobo Castle Ladies Day on August 5. Part of the Sensational 7 series, it has traditionally been held on a Saturday but will now take place on Friday.

An annual sell-out, for more than a decade, it has been Scotland’s premier five-star Ladies Day and one of the country’s biggest fashion extravaganzas.  Showcasing all the top racing action alongside dazzling fashion parades,  there is an after-race party with celebrity DJs, A-lister celebrities, some fantastic food and drink, live entertainment and amazing fashion prizes.

Packages include a day at the beautifully decorated Picnic Pavilion marquee. Located alongside the running rail, it is in prime position for viewing the action and has its own dedicated bar, betting facilities and private washrooms.

Musselburgh Racecourse welcomes the return of spectators to The Betway Easter Saturday

Musselburgh Racecourse will open its gates and welcome back spectators to its spectacular Easter Saturday Raceday for the first time since 2019.

The Betway Easter Saturday featuring The Queen’s Cup is one of the highlights of the sporting calendar and its return has been widely anticipated by racing enthusiasts and those in search of a great day out over the holiday weekend.

With incredible first-class racing and entertainment, the East Lothian track will host around 6,000 racing fans who will be able to enjoy an afternoon of top-quality racing, delicious street food stalls and various food and drink options throughout.

Easter Saturday, featuring the prestigious £100,000 Queen’s Cup, received the royal seal of approval from Her Majesty The Queen herself, and will be the feature race of the day.  Musselburgh is also delighted to welcome back the team from ITV who will be covering four races live on ITV4 Racing.

Musselburgh Racecourse general manager, Bill Farnsworth, commented on the return of Easter Saturday: “We are all delighted to welcome our racing fans back to the course.

“We haven’t been able to allow race goers to Easter Saturday for the past two years, and as its one of our major flagship races of the year, we are thrilled to provide a destination for couples, friends, families, and groups looking for an Easter get together with a difference.”
