Saluting our Volunteers:

Last week our Centre manager Peter regained the reins after his 3 week holiday and his participation with the Summer Programme residential visits; we at the centre would like to give our thanks to the Volunteers who kept the Centre running smoothly despite having to deal with the increase in the kids (on their summer holidays).

Special mention must be made of our Chairperson (John Davidson) and Board secretary Eileen Carr for their dedicated approach not only during this period, but indeed all year. Welcome back Peter, and thank you John and Eileen and to our young volunteers who worked so hard in the cafe and the gardens.

And finally …

. This walk is becoming an ‘annual pilgrimage’ for people who do their best to support their communities. Refreshments will be available at the end of the walk as everyone returns to the Centre.

Pauline makes it work at Millennium Centre!

JAMES McGINTY reports on a popular new activity at Muirhouse Millennium Community Centre …

000_0056

Pauline Nicol-Bowie( Making it Work) had a fantastic response from the community as a total of 13 children & 10 mums. The mums took part in a dough-making session (substitute for Plasticine) for play with their children at home.

The day was deemed such a success Pauline now has the choice of staying in the cafe or an expansion to this service forces her to use the big hall. Congratulations Pauline!

What will Pauline choose: move or stay? I just dough-no … !

Jass Girls keepie-up the good work!

Skills challenge no obstacle to Millennium’s Danna

obstacle

Proud Danna Sutherland accepts her prize of a watch for her keepie-uppie exploits at the recent Big Obstacle event (writes James McGinty).

The prize was awarded by PYCP to the person who could do the most keepie uppies with a table tennis ball and bat. Danna floored the opposition with a record of 72 keepie uppies!

The girls were part of the Muirhouse Community Centre/CLD JASS Group who took part in the Big Obstacle event at Cramond foreshore. The girls used the event, organised by young people from Granton Youth Centre, to raise money for The Scottish Wildlife Trust.

Muirhouse Zumba class for people with disabilities

wild

In the three months our website was down participation in this class has rocketed! A total of 19 (with 3 regulars off due to illness) attended this morning with people coming from all areas of Edinburgh and two buses from the city council supplying the transport (writes James McGinty).

Ally & Lara have to be congratulated for their techniques and the way they have of making this a fun-filled session – this is the only Zumba for people with disabilities known to us in the whole of the U.K.

Well done, Ally & Lara – you both deserve a medal !!
