Tails wagging as new dog park rolls into Edinburgh

Doggy adventure park with a difference set to open its gates

A NEW premium dog park is set to open on the western edge of Edinburgh, offering a rural-feel escape just minutes from the city centre.

Located near the Highland Showground just off the A8 at Gogarburn, the brand new dog park will be the latest venture by award-winning operator Unleash The Dogs, marking its first foray into the capital.

Opening today – Saturday 5th July, final touches are being added in the coming days and bookings are expected to ramp up quickly.

The park forms the first phase of a two-site expansion into Edinburgh, with a second destination set to open near Fort Kinnaird later this summer.

Hailing from a farming background, Craig Gammage and his partner Lauren are on a mission to create the very best places for dogs to visit in Scotland, with seven Unleash The Dogs parks already established across Glasgow.

Boasting equipment and obstacles for canines of all sizes and breeds, the enclosed fields feature doggy friendly sensory gardens, as well as shelters for owners to socialise and escape the Scottish elements.

Craig, 34, said: “This is a huge step for us. Edinburgh has a completely different layout to Glasgow, so we’ve worked hard to find a spot that balances that rural escapism our parks are known for, while staying easily accessible.

“The West Edinburgh field is only about a 15-minute drive from the city centre, yet it is a proper rural escape.

“We wanted to create something truly special here, not just another enclosed space but a destination for dogs and their owners.”

The site is part of a wider rollout from the much-loved brand, which has built a loyal following across Glasgow thanks to its commitment to providing top-tier dog exercise spaces. Each site is designed to Unleash The Dogs’ exacting standards, offering a secure, safe and stimulating environment.

Owners and professional dog-walkers can book their slot for up to eight dogs at a time online, guaranteeing complete private access to the site.

The sites also benefit from regular staffing to ensure the grounds are immaculately maintained, ensuring a safe and clean experience for all visitors.

Craig added: “Our parks are run like five-star resorts. We have regular staff visits, bespoke features, and we never cut corners.

“It’s about keeping standards sky high and creating places that owners are proud to bring their dogs to.

“We’ve developed a strong model in Glasgow, and the response there has been phenomenal. Edinburgh deserves the same standard – and we’re here to deliver it.”

With its premium finish and proximity to the city, the new park is set to become a favourite for dog lovers across the capital.

With the next Edinburgh site in the East already in the works, Unleash The Dogs looks set to make its mark on both ends of the city.

The Royal Highland Centre is Scotland’s biggest indoor and outdoor venue. Located at Ingliston to the west of Edinburgh city centre, it welcomes more than one million visitors a year and delivers some of the biggest events in Scotland.

It makes it the perfect location for Beyond Monet and Beyond Van Gogh, with both multimedia extravaganzas featuring an immersive room which is 10,000sq ft in size.

The centre is also perfectly positioned with good transport links including the A8, the motorway network and Edinburgh Airport.

Produced by Annerin Productions and Paquin Entertainment Group, Beyond Monet: The Immersive Experience celebrates the groundbreaking work of the ‘Father of Impressionism’ in mesmerising and colourful fashion.

In the immersive impressionist extravaganza, cutting-edge technology breathes new life into more than 400 of the legendary French painter’s canvases, taking visitors on a spectacular and unforgettable audio-visual journey through his captivating and colourful world.

Beyond Monet brings together some of the artist’s most famous paintings – including PoppiesImpression: Sunrise and his exquisite Water Lilies series – with lesser-known works which all swirl around the space, offering a fresh and exciting new look at much-loved masterpieces and a deeper connection with Monet, his subjects and his innovative technique.

Taking inspiration from Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris, the designated home of Monet’s works, visitors can freely roam the Infinity Room where they are transported inside the paintings themselves to the accompaniment of a moving original score.

Meanwhile, Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience brings together more than 300 of the post-Impressionist icon’s paintings blended with cutting-edge technology and a specially curated musical soundtrack to tell the story of one of history’s most influential artists, with people able to wander through iconic works – including The Starry NightSunflowers and Terrace of a Café at Night – as they came alive around them.

This is Annerin Productions’ third visit to Scotland following Beyond Van Gogh at Glasgow’s SEC in 2024 – where it won critical acclaim and was seen by 50,000 visitors, and the same experience’s residency at the P&J Live in Aberdeen this summer.

It is the first time the entertainment company has staged anything in Edinburgh.

Anna Parry, UK Business Development at Annerin Productions, said today: “I’m absolutely delighted we’re bringing Beyond Van Gogh to Edinburgh this Christmas, particularly after the very warm welcome Scottish art lovers have already given the experience in Glasgow and the demand for tickets for this summer’s Aberdeen run.

“I’m also excited to be able to present a very special Scottish premiere – Beyond Monet: The Immersive Experience – in the city. Edinburgh was at the heart of the Scottish Enlightenment and art has always played a hugely important role in its cultural landscape.

“Beyond Monet is a stunning show packed with many of his most important and most powerful artworks, immersing art lovers in his revolutionary impressionist world and accompanied by a wonderfully evocative soundtrack.

“With both experiences running throughout December and into the New Year, they’re an ideal festive gift for the art lover in your life, as well as being a great day out for families looking to do something together in the run up to and over the Christmas holidays.

“The Royal Highland Centre is the perfect venue for both Beyond Van Gogh and Beyond Monet and I’m excited to work with the team there who have been incredibly supportive and enthusiastic about our vision.”

Mark Currie, Director of Venue at Royal Highland Centre, said: “Being able to host such unique and immersive events like Beyond Van Gogh and Beyond Monet at the Royal Highland Centre is testament to the truly unique space we have here at Ingliston.

“As Scotland’s largest indoor and outdoor venue, we have an extremely versatile space, and we can’t wait to see these art masterpieces come to life in such an exceptional way for those across the city and beyond to enjoy!”

City Council and West Town Edinburgh Ltd agree joint approach for the sustainable expansion of Edinburgh

Proposals for a new £2 billion, sustainable ‘20-minute neighbourhood’ on 205-acre West Town site ‘set to transform Scotland’s Capital’

West Town Edinburgh Ltd, the development consortium which owns more than 200 acres of prime development land to the west of Edinburgh, has agreed a joint approach with the City of Edinburgh Council to deliver a major new ’20-minute neighbourhood’ for the city.

Both parties have agreed a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ which sets out how they will work closely together to prepare a delivery strategy for the sustainable expansion of Edinburgh at the West Town site.

The agreement was announced by Cammy Day, Leader of the City of Edinburgh Council and Graeme Bone, Group Managing Director of Drum Property Group, developers of West Town, at the UK Real Estate Investment & Infrastructure Forum (UKREIIF) in Leeds

The 205-acre West Town site – located between Ingliston Park and Ride and the Gogar Roundabout at the western gateway of Edinburgh – is one of the most strategically important development areas in Scotland.

The £2 billion project presents the opportunity to help meet the housing needs of the nation’s capital whilst delivering a significant sustainable urban expansion for the city.

The area is identified in the City of Edinburgh Council’s City Plan 2030 as having the potential to become a vibrant, high-density city extension with a capacity for 7,000 homes, along with the commercial and community facilities required for a 20-minute neighbourhood.

The proposals for West Town also align with the ambitions of the Scottish Government’s National Planning Framework 4, which was approved in February 2023. The Edinburgh Tram route runs directly through the site, and a new station will be created to ensure the whole development has access to quick and efficient public transport.

Subject to the development of a delivery strategy as set out by the joint Memorandum of Understanding, as well as the approval of City Plan 2030 and in accordance with all relevant Council policies and the appropriate planning consents, it is hoped that work will start on site next year with the first phase of homes and community amenity being ready for occupation from early 2026.

Welcoming the agreement, City of Edinburgh Council Leader Cammy Day said: “Edinburgh is quickly becoming a trailblazer for the type of affordable, sustainable homes our residents need and this overlooked land at West Town could pave the way for thousands more.

“We are leading the way as a city to harness new technologies to make developments greener and fairer – building low and zero carbon homes which are energy and cost efficient – so I’m looking forward to working with West Town Edinburgh to build on our net zero ambitions.

“Wherever you are in Edinburgh and wherever you choose to go, everyone should feel connected to all of the amenities they need to live well locally, so I’m pleased to see their vision for a 20-minute neighbourhood approach.

“As a Council we’ve been modernising planning and procurement policies so that we can maximise the amount of affordable and social housing and community benefits each new development brings.

“Currently, over 150 households bid for every council and housing association home that becomes available, so we must set our sights on this development unlocking a huge amount social housing. With demand for affordable homes higher than ever before, this is what our city desperately needs.”

Graeme Bone, Group Managing Director of Drum, added: “This agreement is a major step forward in realising the ambition we share with the Council for the area and for the city, further strengthening the long-term collaborative process that is set to deliver a positive and high-quality  transformation of the west of Edinburgh.

“The amount of space on the site combined with its superb location allows for a natural extension for the city providing 7000 mixed-tenure homes and new jobs in a new 20-minute neighbourhood.

“West Town has direct access to some of the best public transport in Scotland – the tram line travels through the site and there are integrated rail, cycle and road connections, creating a strategic gateway to Edinburgh.

“We look forward to continuing to work with the Council to advance our shared vision to create a new, sustainable urban quarter for the city.”

Drum Property Group is currently delivering a variety of transformative mixed-use projects across Scotland, including the award-winning Buchanan Wharf and Candleriggs Square developments in Glasgow.
