Uncertainty weighs on Scottish business confidence, according to regional Business Barometer report

The Bank of Scotland’s Business Barometer for March 2018 shows:

  • Overall confidence for firms in Scotland fell 23 points last month to 12 per cent
  • Firms’ confidence in their own business prospects was 18 per cent
  • Economic optimism remains positive but now stands at just five per cent
  • A net balance of 10 per cent of Scottish firms now expect to hire more staff this year

Scottish businesses plan jobs boost as confidence rises, says Business Barometer report

Bank of Scotland’s Business Barometer for February 2018 shows:

  • Overall confidence for firms in Scotland rose 17 points during February to 35 per cent
  • Economic optimism in the region stood at 33 per cent, 20 points above last month
  • Job creation increased by 23 points to 27 per cent compared to January

Scottish business confidence low but ‘modest’ job creation on horizon, according to new Business Barometer

Bank of Scotland’s Business Barometer for January 2018 shows:

  • Overall confidence for firms in Scotland is at 18 per cent
  • Firms’ confidence in their own business prospects is 22 per cent
  • Some job creation on the horizon, with a net balance of four per cent of businesses looking to employ more staff in 2018

Scots at risk of being unprepared for death

 

  • Half (50%) of adults in Scotland with important financial information online haven’t told their next of kin about their online financial accounts
  • Whereas one in eight (13%) in the region have thought about their Facebook account when they die
  • Almost two thirds (63%) of Scottish people don’t have a will
  • Nearly half (47%) of Scotland’s parents with children aged 18 and under don’t have plans for their children in the event of their death

Scottish business confidence steady … but among lowest in UK 

 

  • Business confidence in Scotland drops slightly from July but remains among lowest in UK
  • Investment intentions remain level for second year running
  • More businesses expect to cut jobs during the next six months than expect to create them
  • Economic uncertainty remains greatest risk to firms

Scottish businesses have reported the second lowest confidence rates in the country amid market uncertainty and concern over weak domestic demand, according to the latest Business in Britain report from Bank of Scotland. Bank branch closures: another two bite the dust

Bank of Scotland branches in Goldenacre and Stockbridge are to close

Two more local bank branches are to close this autumn. The Bank of Scotland branch on Montague Terrace in Goldenacre  will close on 16 October, while the Deanhaugh Street Stockbridge branch will close it’s doors for the last time on 3 November. Unlucky for some: thirteen BoS branches to close

Bye, bye Blackhall: Bank of Scotland branch to close

Bank of Scotland has announced plans to close thirteen branches across Scotland this year. Among the unlucky thirteen is the Blackhall branch on Hillhouse Road. The branches will close by 18 September.

The announcement follows a strategic review of the business which was announced in October last year.

Edinburgh bears the brunt of the closures and is set to lose SEVEN branches. As well as Blackhall the city will lose Fairmilehead, Holyrood, Marchmont, St James Centre, Murrayfield and Sighthill. Four branches will also close in Glasgow and one in Aberdeen. Another branch in Moray closed earlier this month and was replaced with a mobile branch service.

A Bank of Scotland spokesman said: “Our focus has been on urban areas where there is another Bank of Scotland branch nearby. Branches continue to play an important role for us.”

The nearest local branches for BoS customers will be Deanhaugh Street in Stockbridge, 43 Comely Bank or the Barnton branch on Queensferry Road.

The Bank of Scotland news comes hot on the heels of the Royal Bank’s announcement of several branch closures – including Goldenacre – earlier this week. Clydesdale Bank customers – brace yourselves!
