Voter ID risks ‘electoral gridlock’

Elections in the UK could grind to a halt if the government’s plans for voter ID go ahead, the Electoral Reform Society has warned.

New international product design competition launches

  • Contact lens retailer Vision Direct launches inaugural “Visionaries” competition
  • New product design competition to encourage innovation and create solutions for day-to-day challenges of contact lens wearers
  • The competition, which closes in December 2019, is offering winners a £25,000 prize, plus £5,000 for their university

£27 million to support active travel

A new walking and cycling route in the north of Glasgow, the regeneration of Ayr town centre and green infrastructure travel links in Aberdeen, are amongst a number of active travel projects revealed by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon yesterday.

The projects are amongst more than 200 across Scotland receiving a total of £27 million of funding through walking and cycling charity, Sustrans Scotland’s and Transport Scotland’s flagship programme providing advice, support and infrastructure for walking and cycling, Places for Everyone. Underbelly has announced the full Edinburgh’s Christmas 2019 programme. Last year the world-renowned celebrations welcomed almost one million visitors who snapped up over 771,000 tickets to its various events, attractions, rides and markets.

New benefit for young carers launches next week

Teenage carers in Scotland will be the first in the UK to be given financial support thanks to a new Scottish Government grant. A new benefit will open for applications on Monday, with the Scottish Government investing £600,000 to support almost 2,000 young carers in 2019/20.

The Young Carer Grant will be available for 16, 17 and 18 year olds who spend an average of 16 hours caring for someone who receives a disability benefit. Continue reading New benefit for young carers launches next week
