“Education is the key to preventing cruelty” – SSPCA’s Mike Flynn

The Scottish SPCA has revealed that in 2017 their frontline staff responded to over 11,900 incidents as a result of calls to their animal helpline in Edinburgh and the Lothians. Chief Superintendent Mike Flynn said:  “While Scotland is a nation of animals lovers, unfortunately there are some who still abuse and neglect animals.” Continue reading A nation of animal lovers? April’s garden plant of the month: Petunia

The Petunia: easy care, lots of choice 
 
With its large trumpets the Petunia proclaims in all directions that spring really has sprung! This colourful summer annual has diverse uses: in hanging baskets, containers, sacks on the wall and troughs. And when it’s planted in a bed, the Petunia likes to shine amongst the groundcover in borders. It has staying power: if looked after properly, the Petunia will flower until the frosts arrive and will create a sea of flowers in the garden for all that time.

Briggs Commends Education for Young People on Cancer Prevention

It is particularly relevant during 2018 Year of Young People to focus on the education of young people on lifestyle choices that can significantly risk the chance of getting cancer. The Teenager Cancer Trust’s education and awareness programme is now able to reach 80% of secondary schools in Scotland and Miles Briggs, the Scottish Conseratives health spokesman, supports their aim to achieve 100% coverage. Dinosaurs come to life at children’s hospital!

YOUNGSTERS at an Edinburgh hospital have come face-to-face with a T-Rex and taken selfies with a Diplodocus thanks to an exciting new charity partnership. Children and families at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children were delighted to meet animatronic versions of the ancient creatures as part of an upcoming tour of the capital.
