Sports Club creates summer memories for young people

An award-winning West Lothian multi-sports club for young people has created a summer to remember for local children with additional support needs and their carers.

‘No Limits’ was created in 1996 by carers who felt there was a lack of sports and recreation provision for young people with disabilities. Over the years, the grass-roots group has won scores of honours for its pioneering work, including the Queens Award for voluntary service.

This summer, thanks to a £6,000 financial grant boost from Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids, the group, which has members from across West Lothian, Edinburgh and Falkirk, has been able fund a trip to a Calvert Trust Holiday Centre for 29 young people and their carers. The centres, based across England, offer accessible, safe and supportive environments for children with disabilities to enjoy exciting new sporting experiences and activities that push their boundaries.

Paul Weddell, Secretary of No Limits, said: “We really appreciate the funding we get from ‘Cash for Kids’ It enables us to provide an activity based holiday/break for our members and their carers both young and old.

“This year we managed to squeeze in activities like sailing, canoeing, archery, climbing, orienteering, zip-wiring  and laser clay shooting- all in all it was a brilliant week and our sincere thanks go out to all the listeners at Radio Forth.”

“For many young people disadvantaged through disability or poverty, simply getting the chance to take part in sport and have some fun can be completely unachievable. Groups like No Limits are allowing young people to realise their dreams and passions in a safe, constructive and incredibly inspiring environment.

“Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids is delighted to do its bit to help and I’m sure our many thousands of supporters throughout the East of Scotland will be thrilled to see what a difference their donations are making to the lives of local kids.”
