A TEAM of IT experts are facing festive torture – after kitting out their offices with dozens of interactive Christmas decorations which are controlled by members of the public.
Staff with Consider IT now have to endure relentless flashing lights and endlessly looping jingles, with a different member of the public taking control of the decorations every 60 seconds!
To add to the festive cheer, their ordeal is livestreamed online, so that anyone can watch the team surrounded by constantly inflating Christmas characters, distracting lights and enduring tinny tunes.
Stuart Gilbertson, founder and Managing Director of Consider IT, said: “It started off a few years ago as a bit of fun between us and our clients, but moving it online publicly has really brought it to another level.
“While a lot of the staff love the idea, the office Grinches are really starting to lose their minds – there’s only so many times you can listen to Jingle Bells on a loop before the earplugs need to come out.
“It’s fair to say there’s now a love-hate relationship with the festivities this year!”
Among the collection of interactive Christmas decorations are inflatable Christmas trees, an igloo with penguins, a giant inflatable snowman, and a raft of flashing neon disco lights.
It means the long-suffering, 12-strong team will endure at least 100 repetitions of Jingle Bells every day, with around 30,000 web visitors expected to log onto the web page for the chance to control the decorations – with no relief for the staff until January 6.
Stuart added: “Some people might think it’s too distracting, but we look at it as a challenge to maintain our already high standards of service and response times.
“It’s a great, if a bit mad, way to show our clients we can really work anywhere, under any circumstances and still deliver great work – especially when it’s our clients who are often at the other end controlling the action.”
Members of the public who want their chance to log in and control the decorations simply need to visit a special Consider IT webpage, where they log in via Facebook and join a queue for their chance to inflict 60-seconds of festive-themed torment.
