People Know How joins Christmas Challenge aiming to double supporters’ gifts

Edinburgh charity People Know How is gearing up to double supporters’ Christmas donations by taking part in the UK’s biggest match funding campaign, The Big Give’s Christmas Challenge 2019.

Now in its 12th year, The Christmas Challenge launched at midday on 3 December (Giving Tuesday) and runs for just seven days, until 10 December 2019. Throughout the week, participating charities will see supporters’ donations matched (up to £50,000 per organisation), doubling the impact of their gifts.

People Know How is fundraising for its Positive Transitions Service, which supports children, young people and their families across Edinburgh. Their work is based on a consultation of over 700 young people in which we asked them what challenges they face.

From this People Know How developed a body of projects ranging from one to one support, group work, working with social work, art therapy, occupational therapy and music therapy students on placement, and supporting parents, carers and families.

Donations to People Know How will go directly into these projects, working in schools and communities across Edinburgh to improve confidence, wellbeing and mental health.

Lisa Black, Family Liaison Officer at Hermitage Park Primary School writes: Positive Transitions is invaluable. In particular, the benefits of Art Therapy are far reaching.

“Not all children have the language skills to express themselves so Art Therapy gives them a voice. I have seen it have a positive effect on lowering anxiety and stress and boosting self-esteem.”

Jonathan Frank, Director of The Big Give, adds:  “The Christmas Challenge is a great opportunity for the British public to maximise the impact of their charitable gifts.

“Launching on Giving Tuesday, we’re encouraging everyone to consider the causes closest to their heart and to donate, enabling us to help ensure those donations go even further.”

People Know How is taking part in the Christmas Challenge 2019, aiming to raise income and secure vital funding for charitable services for 2020 and beyond.

The Big Give matches donations through partnerships with over 20 funding Champions, including Reed Foundation, The Childhood Trust, Four Acre Trust and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
