As part of #OpWinterCity2019, Police Scotland’s partners at Waverley Mall, Edinburgh have given police the use of an empty retail space to enhance their city centre visibility.
The space will be used to serve as a Festive Police Station and officers within can engage with the public to offer crime prevention and personal safety advice, as well as take reports of any criminal activity witnessed in the city centre area.
In addition, the ‘pop up cop shop’ we offer the opportunity to speak with the retailers based within Waverley Mall to assist them in safeguarding their stores against acquisitive crime and other offences.
Inspector David Brady said: “We are extremely grateful to Waverley Mall for providing us with this unit, which will be in operation daily between 11am and 2pm, starting from Monday 2 December, through until Saturday 4 January.
“Along with our mobile command vehicle in Castle Street, the Waverley Mall pop-up station gives us greater visibility in the city centre and strengthens our efforts to reassure the public and prevent crime arising.”
Jacquelyn Stewart, General Manager of Waverley Mall: “We are very happy to welcome the Cop Shop to Waverley Mall as we all strive to ensure that everyone remains safe in our city and has a peaceful and enjoyable time over the festive period.”
