Scottish Transport Secretary Michael Matheson MSP will give the keynote address at an event showcasing electric vehicles – including two and three-wheelers, the Car of the Year and an electric double decker bus.
The Craiglockhart campus will be the setting for Edinburgh Napier University’s Fifth Annual Electric Vehicle Event on Wednesday October 9.
Discussion at the event, run by the University’s Transport Research Institute, Scotland’s largest and longest established transport research group, will focus on two and three wheelers, policy issues and the latest developments in the field.
On display will be the Kia e-Niro – named What Car? Car of the Year – Volkswagen’s e-Golf and a fully electric double decker. SWARCO, PeddleSMART, Electric Cycle Company, EVA Scotland and Co-wheels Car Club will all have exhibition stands.
Cabinet Secretary for Transport Mr Matheson will be joined by a wide range of expert speakers.
Among those confirmed are Andy Robinson of Transport Scotland, Bjorn Hasselgren, who will discuss Sweden’s electric road programme, James McKemey of electric vehicle charging provider Pod Point, and Edinburgh Napier transport researchers.
Dr Jonathan Cowie, lecturer in the University’s School of Engineering and the Built Environment, will outline the early findings of the SURFLOGH project – Smart Urban Freight Logistics Hubs – a collaboration prioritising the development of green transport solutions in urban areas.
Dr Cowie said: “Much research has been devoted to identifying the key factors that lead to a financially and environmentally sustainable urban freight supply chain. Despite much ‘success’ at the academic level, to date no EU-funded pilot has survived beyond the project termination date.
“This pilot study of a cycle logistics operator in Edinburgh has identified a successful business model based on a ‘bottom up’ rather than a ‘top down’ approach and one which links directly into existing supply chains.”
