Labour leader to address pro-People’s Vote event alongside student activists

Leader of the Scottish Labour Party Richard Leonard will speak on an explicitly pro-People’s Vote platform for the first time at Edinburgh University Student’s Association tomorrow (Monday 9th September). 

He will be joined on stage by Andrew Wilson, a supporter of For our Future’s Sake and President of Edinburgh University Students’ Association and Ailie Ross-Oliver. an activist for Our Future Our Choice, amongst other activists and political figures.
 
Taking place tomorrow at 6pm in Teviot Underground, the People’s Vote Rally is part of a series of events organised by For our Future’s Sake across the UK and off of the back of massive protests over the last week in opposition to the Prime Minister’s suspension of Parliament.
 
THe Labour Party in Scotland, alongside the Labour Party across the UK, has come out in support of a People’s Vote in the last couple of months. Mr Leonard will be urging students and young people to mobilise in the coming weeks and months and get registered to vote.
 
Scottish Labour leader Richard Leonard said: “A no-deal Brexit would damage our economy and put lifeline services like our NHS at risk.
“Labour is clear that we must stop Boris Johnson’s plan for a no-deal Brexit.
 
“Any Brexit deal must be put back to the people’s to give them a final say with an option to Remain on the ballot paper.
 
“Scottish Labour will campaign passionately for a Remain victory to secure jobs, living standards and our country’s future.”
 
Andrew Wilson, President of Edinburgh University Students’ Association and supporter of For our Future’s Sake said: “I am extremely proud to be bringing together passionate students who believe in a Final Say on any Brexit deal.
 “This year, the University of Edinburgh will be welcoming many students who were not given a vote for their future in 2016 and there will be many at the University who believe what was promised is no longer being delivered.
 
“In order to prevent us crashing out with No Deal and to break the Brexit deadlock, a People’s Vote is the only way forward.”
