Roots by Routes is a celebration of people and places across Pilton, Muirhouse, Granton and Drylaw. An initiative by Sustrans and Pilton Community Health Project, the project will see informative story pictureboards displayed along a section of the North Edinburgh cycle path.
Weekly workshops were held at Royston Wardieburn Community Centre over May and June, offering local people the opportunity to share their recollections and memories of North Edinburgh and celebrate the area as it is now. These sessions resulted in the production of storyboard panels which will go on display at locations along the North Edinburgh cycle path between Drylaw and Ainslie Park.
Organisers switched the launch event from Easter Drylaw Park to Drylaw Neighbourhood Centre following adverse weather predictions – a wise move as it turned out!
Many of the activities planned for the Roots by Routes family fun day were sadly washed out, but local people who braved Friday’s lashing rain got to hear some of the stories when the storyboards were displayed at an opening event in Drylaw Neighbourhood Centre.
Suitably strengthened weather-resistant versions of the display boards will appear on the cycle path in the near future.
