Scottish Children’s Lottery cash for Leith School of Art

Edinburgh’s Leith School of Art has been awarded a £6,427 grant from the Scottish Children’s Lottery.

Leith School of Art (LSA) aims to make art tuition accessible to aspiring artists regardless of personal or financial circumstances. The organisation offers bursaries and concessions on courses, and heavily subsided or fully funded art classes for people who might not otherwise have the chance to explore their creativity through art.

The grant from the Scottish Children’s Lottery funds LSA’s Schools Outreach Programme, which allows pupils to develop their talent and passion for art in weekly extra-curricular art sessions after school.

Brigid Collins, Schools Outreach Project Tutor, said: “Thank you to the Scottish Children’s Lottery for this financial support for our Schools Outreach Programme.

“That the pupils grow immeasurably, in terms of both ability and self-confidence, during the time that they attend Leith School of Art, has been backed up by feedback – not only from the pupils themselves, but also from their teachers and those parents with whom I have had the pleasure to meet.

“It is clear from how the pupils conduct themselves in curating and mounting an exhibition of their own work how much they have gained from taking part in the Schools Outreach Project.”

The Scottish Children’s Lottery was launched in October 2016 to raise money for children in Scotland, with proceeds helping to improve the lives of children right across the country and make a real difference to those who need it most.

Michelle Kinnaird is trustee of Chance to Study, which operates as a society lottery under the Scottish Children’s Lottery. Chance to Study supports projects which aim to improve children’s education through their school years and into young adulthood, and ensure that all young people in Scotland have the opportunity to learn, develop and fulfil their potential.

Michelle Kinnaird said: “Chance to Study believes that every child, no matter their background, should be able to maximise all the opportunities open to them during their school life, gaining the knowledge and experience that will help them take their place in society.

“I am delighted that this grant will support the valuable work of Leith School of Art. Thank you to those who play the Scottish Children’s Lottery, you are helping to support the great work that our charities undertake.”
