Scottish berry grower to fuel over 35,000 runners at this year’s Edinburgh Marathon Festival

Scottish berry grower and supplier Angus Soft Fruits has partnered with the Edinburgh Marathon Festival to fuel over 35,000 runners as they cross the finish line with delicious, nutrient packed AVA™ strawberries.

Grown in the ideal climes of the north-east, AVA™ varieties of strawberries have been developed from plant to punnet by an expert team of fruit growing and breeding experts for optimum intensity of flavour, sweetness, juiciness, and appearance.

As the Official Strawberry Supplier for this year’s Edinburgh Marathon Festival, the berry company will be supplying over 1,500 punnets of AVA™ strawberries to hungry runners as they cross the half and full marathon finish line. They will also be out and about on the streets of Edinburgh across the weekend, so competitors can grab a punnet or two as they head home.

The Edinburgh Marathon Festival is Scotland’s biggest running event attracting over 35,000 participants across the weekend. The marathon itself is the second largest in the UK, behind only London, and has sold out every year since 2008.

Lochy Porter, Chairman of Angus Soft Fruits, said: “As a company, we are passionate about delivering great tasting berries that will delight customers each and every day and we’re very excited to be working with the Edinburgh Marathon Festival to help runners refuel at the finish line.

“Strawberries are the nation’s favourite summer snack, and our AVA™ varieties have been bred over the course of several years by the specialists at our in-house research and varietal development division, the Angus Breeding Programme, for improved flavour and appearance.

“Good luck to all those taking part in this year’s Edinburgh Marathon Festival and make sure you look out for your free AVA™ strawberries.”

Neil Kilgour, Edinburgh Marathon Festival Director, added: “We’re so pleased to be working with Angus Soft Fruits this year to give our runners a boost as they cross the finish line.

“I’ve tried AVA™ strawberries myself, they really are delicious and full of flavour – I’m sure they will be a welcome sight for all of our deserving runners.”
