EVOC150: all welcome at Mind the Craic storytelling event

Mind the Craic storytelling event on Monday (25th March) from 7:30 -9:30pm at the Scottish Storytelling Centre.

Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations Council (EVOC) is celebrating it’s 150th anniversary and the organisation, whose mission is ‘to support the voluntary sector to build and enable resilient, sustainable and inclusive communities‘, is hosting events to showcase the findings of it’s Mind The Craic initiative.

Tonight, EVOC will release a report alongside a new documentary at a reception at the City Chambers. In the film, 1001 people from all walks of life share how services provided by charities and community groups keep them happy, motivated, connected and well.

As Diarmaid Lawlor, Chair of the Mind the Craic commission said in the film: “Stories trigger action. Action invites accountability. Prevention is about accountability of us who have power to support those in need. To get back to the core issue of helping everybody achieve happy functional lives with life satisfaction.”

This evening’s event is by invitation only, but it will be followed up with a public storytelling event next week.

Mind the Craic has been collecting the voices of 1001 Edinburgh citizens of all ages from 7 years old to 98 years old, from all walks of life, since June last year.

Real Talk has been working with five of those people who want to share their stories of social isolation, poverty, discrimination and how community and the third sector has helped to stay connected within their communities.

Next week’s event gives them the space to share their experiences as storytellers, sharing their personal journeys. Come along and support them and hear their stories!

The event is free but you must sign up. Here is the link to the Eventbrite: https://realtalkmindthecraic.eventbrite.co.uk
