Dog Charity to hold free event in aid of OAPs (Old Age Pooches!)

Dogs Trust West Calder hopes to find special homes for their older residents

The team at Dogs Trust’s Rehoming Centre in West Calder are holding a special rehoming event later this month, in honour of their older canine residents, named ‘Senior Sunday’.

The event will celebrate the older dogs in their care and highlight why adopting a slightly older pet can be very rewarding. The event will take place on Sunday 24th February between 2.00pm and 3.00pm at the Rehoming Centre and is free for anyone to attend.

The Rehoming Centre in Bentyhead is currently home to several sweet and loveable dogs who are hoping to find the forever home of their dreams.

Dogs like Spike (above), a very affectionate and loving 14-year-old Collie who loves human companionship and having a potter around outside; before curling up for a snooze next to his favourite humans.

Another refined character is Sam, an 11-year-old Labrador who loves trips in the car to new and exciting places. Don’t let his age fool you; he is a very active gentleman on the lookout for an ideal retirement home. Although you might need to speak a bit louder to get his attention, 12-year-old Crossbreed Einstein’s slightly diminished hearing makes him no less affectionate and he is still the happiest pooch.

Susan Tonner, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust West Calder, said: “We really hope potential dog owners will consider adopting an older dog because they deserve to spend their retirement years in the comfort of a loving home.

“Giving an older dog a home comes with many benefits; a lot of older dogs are already house-trained and potentially need less exercise too, as they are happy to take life a bit easier.

“Some of our older dogs are currently staying with foster carers on our Home From Home Fostering program, so they can get all their home comforts while waiting on a permanent home, Spike and Einstein will be popping in with their foster families on the day.”

Anyone who thinks they may be able to provide a cosy and tranquil home for an Old Age Pooch is encouraged to head along to the centre and help celebrate these delightful older pooches.
