Plans have been revealed for the return of a major cycling event in Edinburgh to raise vital funds for two leading charities.
The annual Tour de Forth race will return to the streets of the capital on June 2nd 2019 with more than 800 amateur and professional cyclists expected to take part.
Next year the event will include two routes – the traditional 97.3km race which takes in Edinburgh Airport, the Forth Road Bridge, Fife and West Lothian, and a shorter 44km, ‘nouveau’ route.
Last year, 698 participants hit the streets of Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife, raising more than £51,000 for organisations Mercy Corps and Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids.
Entries are now officially open for individuals, cycle clubs and groups interested in participating with special discounted tickets priced at £25 until Christmas, and £30 afterwards.
Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids Charity Manager, Victoria Hendry, commented: “The Tour de Forth has become a must-attend event for cycling enthusiasts and it’s been great to see it grow on an annual basis.
“The support from businesses, clubs and sporting enthusiasts has been amazing and it makes a real difference to the projects and causes we’re able to support.”
Michael McKean, Senior Director of Programmes, Funding and Operations at Mercy Corps, added: “The Tour de Forth not only raises crucial funds for our work around the world, but it takes place right here in our home city.
“We’re especially excited that this year a new, shorter route is being launched, which we hope will encourage even more people to join in the fun and fundraise to change people’s lives.”
