Loch Lomond to Glencoe is the ideal British road trip

Who needs Route 66 when you have the A82? The route from Loch Lomond to Glencoe has been picked as the ideal British road trip in a new study (26 percent).

The trip featuring the Bridge of Orchy and the gorgeous Loch Lomond National Park was chosen by over a quarter of drivers. The scenic second place routes were Barnstaple in Devon to Newquay in Cornwall and a trip around the New Forest, both of which picked up 13 percent of votes.

No matter where we were driving, there was no doubt who the perfect passenger would be – our partners. Over 85 percent of the 5,000 British drivers surveyed by webuyanycar.com would choose their beloved partner for the road trip, ahead of a celebrity, no matter the star power.

A quarter of us would hire out a special set of wheels courtesy of our credit cards to enjoy the road trip in style, while 42 percent would take the journey in their own car, believing it’s about the journey rather than the vehicle.

The most popular choice for the drive was an Aston Martin (24 percent), followed by a Range Rover (22 percent) and then a Ford Mustang with 10 percent.

Richard Evans, head of technical services at webuyanycar.com, said: ‘The Aston Martin DB11 and the Range Rover were the most popular car choices, underlining that British motorists aspire to the luxury end of the market when it comes to their perfect road trip.

‘’Here at webuyanycar.com, we buy a number of Aston Martins and Range Rovers from customers every year and agree that either motors would be the ideal ride for the perfect road trip.’’

Richard added, ‘’In the UK we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to stunning backdrops for an idyllic road trip. Webuyanycar.com have over 250 branches across the nation, some in the most picturesque of places. Scotland boasts so many areas of outstanding natural beauty, we can certainly see why the drive from Loch Lomond to Glencoe came out on top.’’

40 percent of drivers would soundtrack their road trip with a specially curated playlist, with one in four trusting the radio to provide the background noise, and ten percent of people relying on their conversation to keep the journey going.

Fleetwood Mac’s soft rock classic “Go Your Own Way” was chosen as the ultimate driving anthem by 14 percent of respondents, followed by “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd with 11 percent and then “Take It Easy” by The Eagles with nine percent.

Of course all that singing along would bring on a bit of hunger, so it’s a good thing that 41 percent of people say they’d pack sandwiches. 40 percent of those polled also say they would pack chewy sweets and 38 percent will ensure they have some mints on board.

While 40 percent of people polled said that they’d play no car games, 27 percent of respondents would play “eye-spy” on the journey and 17 percent would test out their passenger with a game of “Would you rather?’’

There’s no need to worry too much about a SAT NAV as 78 percent of people would trust their passenger to give directions. What could possibly go wrong?
