A ceremony for Wojtek day is to be held in Edinburgh on 20th October 2018 and is due to become an annual event.
Wojtek is the famous Polish bear who has a memorial in Princess St. Gardens.
Scottish Conservative Lothian MSP Miles Briggs lodged a motion yesterday at Holyrood Parliament on the ceremony.
Miles Briggs MSP said: “The story of Wotjek is an inspirational one and illustrates the enduring friendship between animals and humans.
“The day will also remember all soldiers who did not survive to see their freedom, their families and communities.
“I encourage local people to learn the story of Wojtek, if they don’t know it already, and attend the ceremony to celebrate the day.”
