All set for North Edinburgh Film Festival

Action gets underway this afternoon

North Edinburgh’s very own Film Festival kicks off at North Edinburgh Arts this afternoon with a choice selection of archive films introduced by Joel Venet.

It’s a rare opportunity to relive Pilton Galas of the 1950s, followed by film of the 1986 Muirhouse Gala, a riot of colour with fabulous costumes and a Caribbean steel drum band.

This is followed by ‘In the Clear’, a documentary about community involvement in the nationwide health campaign against the deadly scourge of tuberculosis (TB) in Pilton in the 50s.

For you culture vultures, there’s the ‘Scottish Opera comes to Pilton’ community arts extravaganza at Triangle Arts from the 1990s.

Pilton Video and it’s successor Screen Education Edinburgh have amassed a wealth of valuable material over the years and next up is student film from the archive about whole range of documentaries, drama and broadcast work from Pilton Video in the 1990s.

This afternoon’s entertainment closes with a screening of Alicja Pawlukzuc’s celebrated documentary about local community activism, ‘Never Give Up’ – you’ll recognise a few well-kent faces in this film!

It promises to be a cracking start to North Edinburgh’s first Film Festival weekend and there’s lots for the whole family to enjoy (see poster for details).
