Edinburgh schoolgirl wins national art competition

A seven-year-old Edinburgh schoolgirl has been left beaming with pride as her artwork was unveiled on the side of a National Express coach after she won a nationwide drawing competition.

Flora Place was picked as the winner of National Express’s Colour the Coach competition in Scotland after her poster encouraging people to come to Edinburgh won an online poll. Her design can now be seen on the side of the coach carrying passengers to and from the city.

Colour the Coach is National Express’s annual nationwide art competition which this year asked kids aged 5-15 to draw a poster to advertise their hometowns. Flora drew a very colourful and exciting drawing of the Royal Tattoo event at Edinburgh Castle which really impressed the judges.

Her design was picked after being shortlisted with some other spectacular designs from  Scotland who entered the ‘Colour the Coach’ competition.

Now Flora’s poster has been turned into a show stopping livery on the side of a National Express coach.

National Express Coach Managing Director Chris Hardy said: “Congratulations to Flora for creating such a great poster of Edinburgh Castle. She is clearly talented and her drawing looks fantastic on the side of our coach.

“We were so impressed with how she has shown off the best things to see in Edinburgh. We are committed to helping the development of young people and showcasing youth talent so it’s great that Flora’s creativity will be on display for all to see.”

Flora who lives with her parents, younger brother Finn and older sister Eilidh said: ‘I’m so excited to win! I wanted to draw something that everyone should visit when they come to Edinburgh and the castle is a great place to see.

“There’s also lots of other things to see and do in Edinburgh, it’s such an amazing place! I’m really excited to see my design on the coach and hope I spot it driving around too!”
