NECK: North Edinburgh Caring and Kind

 Drop In today

Muirhouse Link Up are hoping to start a new project which would make North Edinburgh a more caring and kinder place as well as highlighting the amazing work that goes on already.

We are having a cuppa tea and some cake in North Arts Centre cafe TODAY (Wednesday 8th August) at 2pm and 6pm. Please email julie@mydg.org.uk if you would like to somehow be involved but can’t make one of the meetings.

We would hope to do some of the activities below but we need help and ideas!

  • Welcome to North Edinburgh packs – people are placed in temporary accommodation in North Edinburgh, the pack would have a few basic food items (like tea bags/coffee) as well as information about activities and essential services in the area. We have wondered if school kids could make welcome to north Edinburgh cards?
  • Celebrating our heroes – we would work with local supermarkets to supply flowers and chocolates to give to people who are supporting neighbours or going the extra mile for people in our community – we know lots of this stuff is going on.
  • noone dies alone scheme – unfortunately a growing number of peopleare dying alone, we would train and PVG check people who would volunteer to spend the last few hours with people in our community. please note this doesn’t replace nursing care.
  • Funeral support – we know that when a loved one dies it’s hard to plan and arrange a funeral, we would offer support and guidance to doing it the way people want without being ripped off. We could help with practical stuff like order of services and where to have wakes locally. We would do fundraising events to offer small grants to families who were struggling.
  • Talking about death, dying and bereavement – we know it’s not easy to talk about death but the only certainly in life is that we will all die at some time! We would offer information and space to talk about how we prepare for our own and loved ones deaths. we would like about giving families memory boxes from the community and creating spaces in the community that could be used to think/remember those who have passed away.

We would welcome all support, comments, ideas and feedback. Thanks very much in advance.
