An Edinburgh Napier MSc in Business Event Management has become the first programme in Scotland to gain membership of a prestigious event industry association.

The course – which became the first of its type in the UK when it was launched last year in partnership with the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) – is the first in the country to become a member of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).

The ICCA represents the world’s leading suppliers in handling, transporting and accommodating international meetings and events, and now comprises 1,100 member companies and organisations in almost 100 countries worldwide.

Students who are on the MSc programme at Edinburgh Napier automatically become members of the ICCA too, allowing them access to industry information, global research and trends analysis from throughout the world.

Students will also get the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to attend the ICCA’s annual international conference that this year will be held in Dubai. Alongside attendance, the winning students will receive specialised professional mentoring at the event as well as the chance to attend meetings and network with delegates.

Dr Martin Robertson, programme leader for Edinburgh Napier’s MSc Business Event Management course, (above) said: “2018 will be the second year of the MSc Business Event Management programme. Its development has been timely given that it is a professional area that has become ever more important – both in the wonderful, creative city of Edinburgh and in other major cities throughout the world.

“Membership of the ICCA is fantastic for the programme as it will undoubtedly stand the course, and our students, in good stead as we move forward in the coming months. Gaining industry insight is a focus of the course and it is great to strengthen this even further with this link-up.”

Edinburgh Napier’s MSc in Business Events Management gives students the chance to learn the strategies behind running business events alongside putting them into practice through unique placements at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
