Police have launched an investigation after a blaze at a Leith tower block. The fire is being treated as ‘suspicious’.
The fire service was alerted to the blaze at Citadel Court on Admiralty Street at around 10pm on Monday evening, Around twenty firefighters were in attendance at the height of the incident. Residents were evacuated and six people were treated at the scene for the effects of smoke inhalation..
The fire, which was brought under control by midnight, is believed to have started in a stairwell on the fifth floor of the 20-storey building
A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed: “Police in Edinburgh are investigating following a suspicious fire in Leith.
“Emergency services attended and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the flames, with occupants of neighbouring properties evacuated as a precaution.”
Local MSP Ben Macpherson said: ““The fire in Leith last night at Citadel Court is of course very concerning. My office and I have been in touch with the local residents’ association, the emergency services and the Council, and I will continue to monitor developments closely.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our emergency services for their response to the incident and would like to remind local residents to get in touch if they need any help.”
Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police.
