Two Edinburgh projects have also been successful: the Muirhouse-based Centipede Project receives £9900 to build on work started with the Germinator project. Centipede will use their grant to introduce young people to the idea of self-sustaining through growing their own food. Working with local primary schools, the combined arts and gardening project will be led by a local artist.

Edinburgh’s Friends of the Award were awarded £8100 to support young people from disadvantaged areas work through the Duke of Edinburgh Awards programme. The group will work with 72 young people who face a number of challenges which include mental health issues, experience of the care system, learning difficulties and autism.

The funding, which is being shared by 51 voluntary and community groups comes from National Lottery Awards for All Scotland which makes small grants from £300 to £10,000.
