Students from Edinburgh College’s Contemporary Art Practice course are set to disperse their talents across Edinburgh’s Sculpture Workshop this weekend. ‘Dispersal’, an exhibition encompassing painting, sculpture, performance, photography and moving energy, is the culmination of the students’ work over the past two years.
Nine students will display their portfolio of work which demonstrates the diverse interdisciplinary skills they have developed throughout their studies at the college.
The students’ work takes inspiration from themes including the relationship between body and space, surveillance, politics, identity, human behaviour and masculinity.
The exhibition is part of Edinburgh College’s Glow Festival, which showcases the talents of its Creative Industries students, and includes work by Contemporary Art Practice students Chris Coatham, Eva Cortes, Joel Davidson, Martyna Jakubczak, Greta Martyniuk, Rowan Mitchell, Victoria Rankin, Sophie Templeton and Fruzsi Uhlar.
Victoria Rankin said: “I’m really proud to be part of this exhibition. The standard of work from my peers is so high and I am honoured to be standing alongside such a talented bunch.
“I have learnt so much on the course – it has changed my life for the better. The lecturers really build you up to the highest level possible at this stage of learning. I will be sad to leave, but I know that I can proceed confidently in any endeavours because of what I have learnt from my lecturers Alan, Jennie and Colette.”
Edinburgh College Fine Art lecturer Alan Holligan said: “This year’s graduating artists have produced a fantastic exhibition that will challenge and delight visitors, and stands as testament to their energy, engagement and professionalism.”
‘Dispersal’ is on Friday 1 and Saturday 2 June from 10am until 5pm at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, 21 Hawthornvale, Edinburgh, EH6 4JT. Entry is free.
