Shoreline Project update

Thank you to those of you who took the time to fill out our Edinburgh Shoreline survey, such closed on 30th April. You all contributed excellent ideas that show how much commitment there is to celebrating our amazing Edinburgh coastline (writes Charlotte Johnson).

Our Cultural Adviser, Claire McDade, had great difficulty selecting which groups we will work with for our Shoreline Exhibition (Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh from 28th July-23rd September). Claire chose a range of projects that geographically represent the whole shoreline, celebrate both cultural heritage and our diverse ecology and will be represented in a range of media for the exhibition.

The groups we have chosen are: The GreenFerry Trust, Wardie Bay BeachWatch, Newhaven Choir, Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home with Portobello residents and a group who represent knitting clubs/groups from along the entire length of our coast.

We will also be featuring Granton Castle Walled Garden as an example of best practice: how a community group saved the garden from demolition and development and have used it for local people.

However, we’d still love you to be involved throughout the course of the Edinburgh Shoreline project! I’ll be making contact with those who have also made suggestions for brilliant one-off events. As you’ll know, our website is currently under development, but once finished we want to add your events to our calendar and help you publicise these; celebrating all of your contributions to life on the shoreline!

Keep your eyes peeled for walks and talks from the Edinburgh Shoreline in your area, follow us on Facebook and Twitter and please do come along to visit our exhibition!
