Fallen colleagues remembered on inaugural Firefighters’ Memorial Day

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service marked Firefighters’ Memorial Day yesterday and honoured the sacrifice of firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty. Firefighters across the UK came together on Friday, May 4 to remember the bravery of colleagues serving and protecting communities from harm.

At midday SFRS fire crews and staff gathered outside their stations and participated in a two-minute silence to mark this poignant occasion.

Chief Officer Alasdair Hay said: “I’m so proud to stand today to pay tribute to those who truly made the ultimate sacrifice to protect others.

“We have to remember that these were not only committed firefighters – but they were also fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers and children. I have deep respect for all firefighters across the world and it is right and proper that we honour them.”
