Local community councils will have the opportunity to have their say on the draft North West Locality Improvement Plan (LIP) Action Plan later this month.
Last week’s NW Locality Committee agreed that community councils should get a chance to see and comment on the detailed Action Plans, giving them an opportunity to make suggestions for amendments to the draft plan. Councillors asked for a report on the outcome of these consultation events to be tabled at June’s North West Locality Committee.
Under current community planning mechanisms community councils are represented on Neighbourhood Partnerships, which are advisory committees of the council – but there is no community representation on Locality Committees.
Just how this situation will be resolved will be the subject of another consultation, this one to be organised by the Edinburgh Partnership, the overarching strategic body which oversees the capital’s community planning arrangements.It’s important that a way is found for community organisations to be part of the local decision-making process: after all, how can you have genuine community planning if there is no community in the community planning process?
This consultation is likely to take place late this summer or early autumn, and in the meantime another round of Neighbourhood Partnership meetings has been organised.
