Leonardo staff raise funds for MND Scotland

MND Scotland celebrated its first anniversary as Leonardo’s charity partner, with a visit to their Crewe Toll Edinburgh office, where they received £7,000 from staff.

In April 2017 staff at Leonardo’s Edinburgh site voted for their preferred charity partnership for 2017-19, with MND Scotland coming out on top. Leonardo in the UK is a world-class advanced engineering company, with expertise in the aerospace, defence, security, cyber and space sectors.

Over the past year, employees have participated in a wide range of fundraising activities including:  bake sales, sponsored walks and the sale of a charity calendar of employees’ photos, an  annual Holyrood Fun Run in August and a zipline event over the Clyde in Glasgow. This month staff will hold a pub quiz in Edinburgh and collecting cans in the office canteens continue to raise funds across the site, coupled with a poster campaign to help raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease.

John Weitzen, Chairman of Leonardo’s Edinburgh Charity Committee, said: “I am always amazed by the amount of money raised by our employees and their enthusiasm and dedication to MND fundraising has been fantastic.

“MND Scotland is carrying out vital work across the country and we are proud to support them.”

Morag McGown, Corporate Partnerships Manager from MND Scotland, said: “I am truly grateful to every single Leonardo employee who helped us raise this incredible total.

“The funds raised are already making a huge difference to the lives of people affected by MND across Scotland and going towards research which is taking us a step closer to a cure.

“I’d like to thank everyone involved for their continued support and I’m looking forward to working together in the coming year.”
