The Edinburgh Dungeon is celeb-rat-ing the opening of its Rat Café in the new Edinburgh Dungeon Tavern. The pop up café will be open for a limited time only over the Early May Bank Holiday weekend and will give guests a chance to enjoy a Rattucino with real rodents.
Following the success of the current cat café craze, visitors will get the opportunity to stroke and even cuddle the most misunderstood of animals. A team of rat enthusiasts will be on hand to answer any burning questions that visitors may have about the infamous Rattus norvegicus.
Guests can enjoy a variety of rat themed treats and drinks including Rattucinos, Café Rattes, Rat Whites, Black Forest Rateaux, Carrat Cake and more.
The Edinburgh Dungeon is working in partnership with the National Pet Initiative, alongside a team of volunteers, who will hand over the fancy rats. A small donation of £2 to the National Pet Initiative is requested on arrival for an hour-long slot at the Rat Café and all profits from food and drinks sales will also go to the National Pet Initiative.
The newly opened Edinburgh Dungeon Tavern will host a variety of themed events and will also offer scary themed drinks, year-round.
Edward Evans, General Manager, said: “Rats have always had an undeservedly bad reputation as being dirty and disease-ridden creatures, but our fancy rats are hygienic, extremely well groomed and full of character.
“The Edinburgh Dungeon wants to change these common misconceptions of rats by inviting visitors to enjoy our furry friends first-hand. Our Rat Café will provide scary and unconventional fun for the whole family to enjoy, while raising money for the National Pet Initiative”.
The Rat Café will open its doors from 4 May to 6 May. Entry is through pre-booking only and demand is likely to be high, so early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment. Find out more and book at www.thedungeons.com/edinburgh.
