Centre shoppers raise £2700 for Youth Foundation

Kind-hearted shoppers who attended an interactive LEGO® bricks event at The Centre, Livingston have raised £2,700 for the mall’s Charity of the Year, West Lothian Youth Foundation, (WLYF).

The event, where most of the activities were free, including the creation of a public art LEGO bricks mosaic and a giant DUPLO brick pit was designed to bring families together to shop, eat and play during the Easter holidays and raise money for The Centre’s local charity.

For a donation of £2, children at the model building zones could make their own personalised minifigures, which was a huge hit – not only with children but adult LEGO brick fans too!

The £2,700 raised for WLYF, which has been running sports programmes for around 800 people, aged 2 to 92 every week, to promote health and educational development, will help kick-start its Fit4Life project to encourage young people who are homeless or suffering mental health issues to take up sport to help improve their lives.

The project, which costs £10k per year to run, will also help youngsters who face complex barriers in daily life when entering employment, education or training.

It is a free 12-week programme aimed at encouraging participants to adopt a healthy lifestyle and join in activities including football coaching sessions and qualifications, cycling events, health and fitness classes, weight management and cookery classes.

Scott Millar, General Manager, West Lothian Youth Foundation, said: “When we heard the total that was raised from the LEGO bricks event at The Centre everyone at WLYF was amazed.

“The funds raised will have a massive impact on those that participate in our Fit4Life programme and we can’t thank the shoppers enough for their generosity.”

Ashley Bisland, Deputy Centre Director at The Centre, said: “We would like to thank our shoppers for digging deep to help us raise funds this fantastic local charity, WLYF.

“It is great that they are now in a position move forward with their Fit4Life project to help youngsters to turn their lives around.

“We are looking forward to being able to continue to support them for the rest of the year and help them to reach their £10k target to fully roll the project out.”
