Fags’n’Matches are back at the Maybury

Grosvenor Casino Edinburgh in South Maybury, is set to welcome back legendary local band Fags ‘n’ Matches, over fifty years on from their first performance at the venue, known then as the Maybury Roadhouse.

Headlining a cabaret-style event on Saturday (14th April), audiences will be treated to a variety of iconic hits from the 60s and 70s.

After winning local talent competition Search for a Star in 1972, Fags ‘n’ Matches became favourite residents at the Maybury, and although the line-up has changed since winning, the five-piece band remains popular with their Edinburgh audiences.

Colin Bellett, drummer, said “We enjoy playing at the Maybury as we have a lot of really fond memories of the place from when we first started playing there back in the 60s. It’s been great to be invited back, the Casino staff are always really welcoming and supportive!”

Three original members remain; Colin on drums, singer John Miller and bass player Roy Martin. Eddie Logan stepped up to replace Graeme Tosh on keys after he moved to England, while Dougie McQuillan joined the band as lead guitarist.

Tom Docherty, General Manager at Grosvenor Casino Edinburgh commented: “Fags ‘n’ Matches hold legendary status here at Grosvenor Casino where they first started playing over fifty years ago. The customers always love listening to the lads, they bring a great feeling of nostalgia with their upbeat 60s and 70s hits.

“We pride ourselves on providing not only amazing gaming facilities, but also hosting entertainment that audiences will love, to welcome Fags ‘n’ Matches back really is a privilege.”
