The Scottish Government has set out revised ambitions for Scotland and what it hopes to achieve over the next ten years – but to what extent are these changes helpful, desirable and appropriate?
These are the type of questions the Scottish Parliament’s Local Government and Communities Committee will consider as it examines the following National Outcomes:
- We live in communities that are inclusive, empowered, resilient and safe
- We tackle poverty by sharing opportunities, wealth and power more equally
- We grow up loved, safe and respected, so that we realise our full potential
These three National Outcomes provide a broad measure of national and societal wellbeing, incorporating a range of economic, social and environmental targets. Each outcome describes what the Scottish Government wants to achieve, including everything from delivering high-quality public services to building strong and supportive communities.
Local Government and Communities Committee Convener, Bob Doris MSP, said: “The key purpose of these revised National Outcomes is to set out a clear vision for the future, which includes how we deliver vital public services and build strong communities.
“Our Committee now wants to know people’s views on these proposed changes to Scotland’s vision for communities and public services. Are these changes helpful, desirable and appropriate?
“We will be discussing comments we receive with the Minister and the Scottish Government and whether or not these National Outcomes will deliver the kind of Scotland we all want to live in.”
The Scottish Parliament has 40 days to provide its views to the Scottish Government on the changes proposed, beginning with the Local Government and Communities Committee inviting Committees to consider the revised outcomes within their remit.
