Young musicians from Scotland, the North of England and Northern Ireland have descended on Scotland’s capital city for a Uniformed Youth Organisation’s Music Course culminating in a ceremony of Beating Retreat up in Perth.
Eighty young people aged 12-18 from the Sea Cadet Corps (SCC), Army Cadet Force (ACF), Air Training Corps (ATC) and Combined Cadet Force (CCF) are currently practising hard for Friday’s performance in this, the Year of Young People. The event celebrates the young people involved with the service cadet organisations and highlights their many talents and achievements.
The combined band promises a marvellous night of musical entertainment for all ages and they are extremely excited to welcome audiences to come and watch their performance. Donations taken on the night will be in aid of service charities.
None of this could be achieved without the tireless commitment and dedication of the adult volunteers from the SCC, ACF, ATC and CCF who utilise their own time and skills to provide further opportunities for young people across the United Kingdom.
Cadet Drummer Kyle Donaldson from Lothian & Borders Army Cadet Force has been with the organisation for 3 years but has just taken up learning to play an instrument. “…my favourite thing about camp so far has been meeting new people from different organisations and places in the UK”.
The National Cadet Music Camp is an annual event that these young people and adults look forward to and work toward throughout the year. The group come together to share their passion for music and increase the skills that they already possess through shared learning and experiences. Events like these encourage young people to challenge themselves to achieve what may have once been out of reach and illustrates the eclectic mix of activities and opportunities on offer to young people within Edinburgh, the Lothians and Scottish Borders who are between 12 and 18 years of age.
