Autism Week events

Monday marked the start of World Autism Awareness Week – an annual campaign to raise awareness and highlight the challenges facing the 1 in a hundred people in the city who have autism. World Autism Awareness Day is Monday 2 April 2018.

Upcoming events:

Thursday 29 March – ‘The Autistic Gardener’

Head along to the Central Library for 7pm for an evening with autistic gardener, Alan Gardner. Returning by popular demand, Alan will appear for the third time to give his personal insight into his life. Tickets can be reserved here.

Thursday 5 April – WAADStock 2018

ATIK in West Tollcross will play host to this year’s WAADStock 2017 – a free event for over 18s. This evening of live music will celebrate autism from 7pm until 10.30pm.

You can find the full list of events here.

Councillor Ricky Henderson, Chair of Edinburgh Integration Joint Board said: “World Autism Awareness week is a fantastic opportunity for us all to consider how some of us struggle every day through no fault of our own, and reminds us to show compassion and understanding.

“Edinburgh is fortunate to have some great services for people with autism but there is always room for improvement and we are committed to supporting those in need to reach their full potential and to lead happy and independent lives.”

Visit the city council’s autism pages for full details on these and other events. You can also read more about the various services the Council provides for people with autism.
