Tonight: delve into Drylaw’s hidden gems

Pilton Community Health Project’s HIDDEN GEMS walks

This week’s Hidden Gems walk this Thursday 6th July explores Drylaw and Drylaw House. It starts at 7pm at Drylaw Neighbourhood Centre at 67 Groathill Loan where you can see the gardens and what is growing there. The walk is 2 miles long.

Next week’s walk on July 13th explores Granton’s Industrial Past. We will have a speaker from Granton social history group who has extensive knowledge of the area. Come and find out why people used to have tortoises in Granton! Meet at 7pm at Lochinvar Drive, Granton Square. The walk is a mile long, but contains huge amounts of history and more recent information.

On July 20th we will be finding out about the wider Granton area, taking in the sea views and finding out when a lighthouse is not a lighthouse. We will also be finding out plenty about the old railways that used to run along much of the route from a local train expert! Starts at Ainsley Park Leisure Centre. This one’s a bit longer at 3 miles.

July 27th starts from Muirhouse Community shop and finds some of the best green spaces in the Muirhouse and Silverknowes. The walk is 3 miles long and goes through the golf course: watch out for those balls!

August 3rd All that Sparkles walk is all about art in the local area. Designed and led by local artist in residence at North Edinburgh Arts Centre it finds art where you would never expect it. Starts at 7pm the Art Centre off Pennywell Rd (behind the shopping centre on Pennywell Rd). This walk is just under 3 miles long.

August 10th is an extra foraging for free food walk. Come and find out what kind of local plant life makes excellent salads and soups for free! North Edinburgh Arts Centre’s gardener will be showing you what you can find in the local hedgerows and paths. Starts 7pm at North Edinburgh Arts Centre (behind the shopping centre on Pennywell Rd). The walk is 3 miles long.

ALL WELCOME!
