North West Recovery Service: Lifeline service replaced by CGL

Health and social care CGL (Change Grow Live) has taken over the local recovery service previously run by Lifeline from a shop unit in Muirhouse Shopping Centre. Lifeline is no longer in operation, having ran out of money last month.

Lifeline’s collapse followed massive growth over recent years and an annual turnover of almost £62m in 2015-16. The charity successfully tendered for recovery work in North West Edinburgh and they secured the contract to provide drug and alcohol services which had been run by local community project North Edinburgh Drug Advice Centre (NEDAC) for many years.

Service users have been promised the ‘same level of service’ from CGL, who will be based in the North Neighbourhood Office in West Pilton Gardens from today.

CGL said in a statement: CGL has been invited by Lifeline to help end the uncertainty facing their service users and staff. Over the past weeks we have worked collaboratively with Lifeline management to transfer as much vital service provision as possible

On 1 June 2017 CGL took over the operation of many of the services provided by Lifeline. We have transferred in over 1000 staff and over 40 service delivery contracts.

This allows these services to continue to exist without withdrawing vital treatment and support, ensuring that the minimum possible risk is caused to service users’ lives.

Service users can expect the same level of treatment and care. Referrals can continue as normal and contact details for services will stay the same for the time being.
